Riverwood

A full-time activities director organizes entertainment, concerts, holiday parties and trips, along with games such as mahjong and bridge. These organized offerings sit alongside informal opportunities to spend time together at the community’s recreational facilities. The community website provides information about upcoming events and a calendar of activities, giving residents a way to follow scheduled programs as well as use shared spaces for recreation.

Sports facilities include six Har-Tru tennis courts and six pickleball courts. Residents can play informally or join league teams, and program directors offer group and private lessons, clinics and drills for both sports. Croquet is played on a dedicated lawn in morning and afternoon sessions, while three bocce courts offer another option for group play. A dog park has separate areas for large and small dogs, with benches for people who prefer to sit and watch.

At the main entrance, a gatehouse is staffed by guards around the clock; two additional entrance and exit points are accessed by transponder. Riverwood Beach Club is a members-only facility on Manasota Key beside a Gulf of Mexico beach. Its amenities include chaises and sand chairs, picnic tables beneath shaded pavilions, barbecue stands, an ice machine, restrooms and outdoor showers. The Riverwood Community Development District owns and manages the Beach Club.

Riverwood Golf Club is a semi-private, par-72 course designed by Gene Bates and managed by Coral Hospitality. The course is laid out among the area’s natural surroundings. Golf and social memberships are available, as are pay-to-play options, and residents may have lunch at the clubhouse.
