Just Renovated Beautiful Place , Great management and Kind and caring staff

Had a family member there. At first, staff seemed helpful, however, things went down. Due to one patient wasting toilet paper, there was none put into bathrooms, nor soap or paper towels. They don't even have enough towels for each resident and even borrowed my sister's personal towels and used on other residents. Further one aide who slept there kept using my sister's personal toiletries but would not replace them. In a particular night, the aide was sick, so she locked patients in house, left key under doormat and went home before another aide arrived. She would also sleep in her car at night and leave patients alone in house. Even worse, on another dat, a patient was wielding a stick, aide locked herself in office and left patients to fend for themselves. We made regular visits and left snacks, and supplies for my sister and enough cigarettes for each month. He cigarettes were kept in office and she was given a pack a day. However, she was shorted up to nine packs and no response from staff as to where they went. My sister was very generous with staff and when we took her out to eat, she would would buy food for the staff and some patients. Just prior to moving her to another location, one staff member was angry about our questioning the events there and yelled at her loudly in front of other residents. She was very intimidated and spent the day alone in her room. While there, she gained so much weight and was never given a diabetic diet. They do not even check sugar levels at all. They are given peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner or a thin slice of turkey with a piece of cheese on white bread. The drink served is Kool Aid. My sister began using a walker and always seemed sluggish. Her meds were changed via phone call with their provider could add even more, but feel eenough said. Since moving my sister to new location she is very upbeat, happy, and even danced while being recorded for family members. And this was only five days after going to her new location. They have real daily activities as opposed to NONE at Heritage Oaks ALF. Do not believe the brochures or ads whatsoever. Rather, take an unannounced tour before placing your loved ones.

Recently did a tour looking for a place for my mom. Unfortunately, places like this of this size are not equipped to handle anyone that is not completely independent, let alone memory care. pass

this is a 16 bed residential home, so your parents/grandparents will get more attention, but if they get 'Sundowners' or become combative; they will tell you they need to see the Psyche Nurse and be put on psyche medications or they won't be able to stay there. My mom was in this situation and I kept her primary dr, but when they told me I had to let my mom be treated by the psyche nurse or I would have to relocate her to another facility, this is illegal, you do not have to see the facility medical personnel. The nurse practitioner over medicated my mom with psyche meds and she fell and broke her other hip; now she is bedridden and may not live very much longer. My mom's primary had her on xanax twice a day, the staff didn't want to deal with her walking all over the place, they wanted her out of the way and staying still. Most of the staff is good, but some don't want to do their jobs. One time when I was there visiting, my mom couldn't get to bathroom in time, one staff member cleaned up her room and floor first before attending to her needs; the other staff member took her sweet time getting to my mom to assist her. I couldn't do it as I did not know where they kept supplies. I advise you to do a great deal of research on any facility and don't let anyone bully you into using their medical personnel, you are allowed to keep your primary doctor if you desire. I know it is a convenience to use facility medical, but remember they don't know your parents/grandparents like the primary.
