I was admitted to Clearwater Recovery (operated by Banyan) in the Boston area in 2021. My experience was deeply traumatic and professionally negligent. While under their care I experienced multiple serious failures: staff misconduct, inadequate and harmful treatment, misleading or fraudulent billing practices, and being kept in the facility against my expressed wishes. I sought help and left with more trauma than support. I also observed what appear to be numerous glowing reviews that do not reflect my experience; prospective patients and families should be cautious and look for independent verification of outcomes and staff conduct. If you are considering this facility, please take the following precautions: verify the facility’s licensure and accreditation, ask for clear written treatment plans and billing disclosures, request references from recent patients if possible, and consult trusted medical or legal advisors before admitting a loved one. If you or someone you know experiences abuse or fraudulent billing at a treatment center, report it to Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.
