About this community

Alabama Oaks Assisted Living is in Winter Park, Florida, in Orange County. A community profile lists capacity for 19 assisted-living units. That figure is a stated capacity, not a report of current occupancy or available openings. The Winter Park Library Archives includes the property in its Winter Park Historic Homes collection under the historical title “Alabama Oaks Retirement Home.” A company profile places Alabama Oaks among estate homes in historic Olde Winter Park. These references connect the property with a historic part of the city but do not describe its current architecture. The community is also listed as Alabama Oaks of Winter Park.

Assisted living is the care option identified in the available profile. It does not list memory care or independent living as separate offerings. Listed healthcare features include non-ambulatory care, diabetic care and incontinence care, along with staffing and ancillary services. The profile names these categories but does not explain staffing schedules or how support is arranged for particular needs.

Room features named in the listing include ground-floor units, air conditioning, bathtubs, wheelchair-accessible showers and kitchenettes. The set covers different bathing fixtures and includes a kitchenette among the room amenities. The profile does not say whether every room has all the listed features, which options are available together, or what room sizes and layouts are offered.

Dining listings include on-site options, a private dining room, guest meals and room service. Meal choices named are vegetarian, gluten-free, no-sugar, and low- or no-sodium options. The listing gives no sample menus or meal schedule. Housekeeping and grocery shopping or errands are also listed services. Resident parking is noted, and the property is described as convenient to public transit; the available information does not clarify transportation arrangements. Cats and dogs are listed as allowed, with pet care also named.

Indoor and outdoor common areas and a swimming pool appear among the community amenities. Activities include art and cooking classes, a gardening club, yoga or chair yoga, and stretching classes. Pet-focused programs are also listed, as is off-site brain fitness using Dakim. The Dakim entry is specifically marked off-site, but the listing does not name where it takes place. The activity details identify classes, a club, movement options and a separate off-site program, but do not give a schedule or indicate how often activities take place.

Other listed activities include birthday and holiday parties, happy hour, barbecues or picnics, and day trips or outings. Live music and live dance or theater performances are named alongside devotional activities and wine-tasting activities. These entries cover social gatherings, excursions and performances as well as classes and movement activities; the profile does not specify when particular events are held.

Alabama Oaks Assisted Living in Winter Park is amazing. Lovely staff and residents. I’ve been teaching Chair Yoga there for 4 months. It’s clean and beautifully maintained. I highly recommend it!

Compassionate and caring staff. They provide excellent care and support for the elderly residents.

I’m writing to educate others. Look for a legitimate facility for your loved one. Activities were a joke. The residence served as a landing pad for management’s children. Kid’s clothes were mixed in with the resident’s as the staff apparently used the washer/dryer. The so called placement “specialist” who used to be the Administrator (you’ll still find her name on lots of industry association lists and marketing content) told me I wouldn’t find “better care”. My heart breaks for the residents who don’t have visitors or a voice to speak the truth.

What a beautiful setting for a senior living community.

The worst facility I am ever witness. There alot of abuse and very little care for the elderly. I witness someone screaming and the care at this facility is disgusting beyond belief. I am reporting this to the authorities because I was in tears in seeing the things I saw. Unbelievable.

They have done good with activities with social distancing and entertainment. The neighborhood is amazing and the grounds are really nice, and the value for this is amazing compared to other facilities. I would recommend this community.

They provide the Best care to the residents

Alabama Oaks has a charming appeal with its front porch. However, not all the rooms have adequate air conditioning. When we moved our mother in around the [date removed] we asked for a window air conditioning unit. It was too hot and stifling without one. A year later the owner removed it because he thought it looked tacky when you first approach the building. He never consulted with the family. The staff does not mingle with the residents. They sit in the kitchen on their cell phones. This place is not good for people with mobility challenges. There is minimal oversight. Also, the menu posted for the families to view was different than the one in the kitchen. Residents are served soup and sandwich every lunch, seven days a week.
