Skilled Nursing Facility - Gulf Coast Medical Center

I literally have zero complaints.The staff is attentive and very nice. The facility is very clean and does NOT smell like a hospital or nursing home. It's smells clean!! If you get a choice or skilled nursing, this is a top choice.

Thank you to the supervisor on Friday 8/8/25 at 1800. She gets 5 five Star ⭐ review, all other aspects of care, nursing and dietary do not. I sent my dad a care package as he said the food was horrible and he needed snacks. He is 86 years old alert and oriented and is miserable there, he stated he lays in bed most of the day at a rehab? The nursing staff took away the package and said he could not have it, because he is on insulin. Despite his primary doctor affiliated with Lee Health DCing it months ago. At 86 years old he can have anything he wants, he deserves nothing but to enjoy his life. He has the right to make his own decisions about his health good or bad, that is his right. The nurse denied that basic right, choosing to make a choice for him in the most infantile manner. Do better. Have compassion and use your critical thinking, you could have reached out to the Doctor and got an order to let him have it or at minimum respected his ability to make choices. There were a multitude of opportunities that could have been chosen, not the one that took the patients rights away. Little things matter.

This is a nice facility, but runs a skinny staff. Do not recommend a “patient still on catheter” going in, unless you yourself are knowledgeable about how to clean and maintain. She ended up getting a raging infection had to go back to ER because catheter issues ( not maintaining/took out w/o permission) creating complications. Being An Advocate is a must!!! Nurses in general are to keep your loved ones alive, follow doctors, notes, not to necessarily keep them comfortable. They are left alone a lot of the time. Mom has been in here before, after a hip replacement surgery. Had a horrible experience with a “traveling nurse” leaving her in excruciating pain for 5 hours. JUST STAY CLOSE TO PATIENT! Although 80% of the nurses are compassionate and wonderful the other 20% I feel, are just going through the motions. Having said that, I feel they were very thorough in their assessments and have compassionate and Caring PT department

We did not have a good experience. My Grandpa went into the hospital after falling and a week later was sent to the Gulf Coast Skilled Nursing Facility to get stronger before he went home. He began to rapidly decline and because my and Mom and I live in another city, we drove down when he stopped answering the phone. When I got there at 11 am he was not able to sit up or respond to me. I immediately got the Nurse Practioner. She said they hadn't been in yet because it was a Monday. They called 911, and ironically the patient in the next room was going back to the ER as well. When the EMT arrived, the nursing staff could not answer basic questions like "what medication is he on? Does he has a fever? (he did have a 102 fever they didn't know about)". He was diagnosed with sepsis and died of infection in the hospital 4 days later. We were told this facility was the best and that it was 5 stars. I wish I would have looked at the reviews before he went there.

My father's first day in here and I don't feel like he is safe. We had to leave for 1 hr and in that amount of time he needed help getting off the commode and back in his chair. He pushed the call button and never got help. He got himself off the toilet and in his chair. He's been very sick in the hospital so has very little strength. I brought this to a nurses attention as well as the cna and nobody would take accountability. If you have someone you care about and you're thinking of this facility only do it IF you stay around the clock.
