Lakeside Health Center

I visit this facility regularly to see my grandfather, and while I’ve tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt, what I witnessed today was absolutely unacceptable and not the first time I’ve seen behavior like this. A resident in a wheelchair politely asked a nurse for help getting to the bathroom. The nurse responded with visible irritation, rolling her eyes, speaking in a rude and dismissive tone, and ultimately refusing to help. She told the resident she “knows how to go on her own” and that she “doesn’t have time,” then sat back down on her phone. This wasn’t just unprofessional, it was cruel. I’ve seen similar behavior before, especially during the night shift. Seeing it happen during the day shift as well leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. At this point, it feels like a pattern, not an isolated incident. I understand that caregiving is demanding. No one is asking staff to do the impossible, but basic politeness and respect should be the bare minimum. No one told you to do anything extraordinary here, just to treat a resident like a human being when they ask for help with something as basic as going to the bathroom. Going out of your way to be openly nasty and dismissive toward someone who depends on you is unacceptable in any setting, let alone a nursing home. If this is how staff treat elderly residents in front of visitors, it raises serious concerns about what happens when no one is watching. Management and HR need to take this seriously. Residents deserve dignity, patience, and respect, not eye rolling, neglect, and attitude. At the very least, staff should be expected to act like they care. I have documentation of this incident and am prepared to provide it if needed.
