Havencrest ALF III

My father transferred to Havencrest seven months ago. He was in another ALF for 3 years prior but had to move to a facility that could offer a “2-person assist”. Worsening dementia and increasing frailty made his world increasingly dangerous with his fall risk. The building itself was not glamorous ( wasn’t important to our family), but after looking at several other options the good feeling we got from the staff helped us make our decision. The staff treated everyone like family, the food was prepared in house, my mother and sister had several holiday meals there as a potluck. My dad was always clean and medications were managed appropriately. Before his transfer, he was falling several times a week; and at Havencrest he only had one little fall/slip in the first few days before they got to “know” him. Location was good, in a quiet neighborhood, across the street from a school and park where we wheel my dad. The hospice team worked seamlessly with Havencrest, my dad had all the equipment he needed. He was able to die in his room with dignity, peacefully.

Havencrest ALF V was pretty nice and very well kept, but the price was more than what I wanted to spend. The front was not kept up very well and needed some TLC, but I was impressed with the inside of the place. It looked like they had put new floors in. It wasn't exceptional but it was average. The staff who gave me the tour didn't even know I was coming, but she was very courteous. She walked me through and then told me that the manager would call me. When I was walking through, I saw a group of residents in a room watching TV. I think this place was geared more toward women than it is toward men.
