Grand Oaks

Nice place and very clean. However, my mother is there. They advertise a nurse 24/7, there is not. They plan activities, but no-one shows up to do them. No one at front desk most of the time. And worst of all, the person who administers the medication has not yet graduated High School.

My loved one was a resident here. For the area, it's one of the only options and is ok, but there's not enough staff and also a lot of turnover of staff and cooks. It's an older building, so doesn't seem as clean. I would say it's OK if you have family that lives in the Okeechobee area and want to be close to them to have someone live there, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone that does not have family in the Okeechobee area. We felt like someone from the family needed to visit my loved one regularly to make sure things were taken care of properly 100% of the time.

Everything about the Oaks is positive. The physical facility is excelent,well maintained and very clean. The staff is great. They are very competent, friendly, courtious and always ready to do what ever they can to make you comfortable.The dineing experience is first rate the service is prompt, the food is very good and the variety and preparation is outstanding. The only deficiency that I have noted is that frequently the food is not hot and sometimes the vegitables are cold and overcooked. The deserts more than make up for this problem-- they are superior. Overall I would rate the Oaks 4.95 out of 5.0

This is a smaller community I have a 1 bedroom apartment. They will come and check on me every 2 hours. Everybody is a close knit family here. If you don't like something you just tell them and they are kind and will make a change. They serve 3 good meals a day with alternates to choose from. They keep things really clean in here. The have a calendar of daily activities that they have to offer. They have a bus that will take us shopping like Wednesdays are Wal-mart day. There is a nice garden in the back and they have a porch with rocking chairs on it. Another thing I like is there are no clicks here we all care for eachother. I would recommend this community.

The Residents are great to work with. Upper management is so far out of touch with patient care it is so ridiculous. Residents are heard but nothing is changed from Upper management. Coming from an employee stand point The Upper management does not know what the left and right hand are doing to say the least. The Company has people that are not Core Trained trying to tell the people who are Core trained what they should be doing. I have never seen a company so disorganized in my life and they also do not want to go by the state guidelines due to spending money. They also advertise RN 24 hour onsite and that is also untrue. It is a great place if you want to keep your loved ones close so you don't have to travel out of town but I would check into better places.
