Egret Cove Center

Very disappointing to say the least. This is lengthy but worth reading my husbands experience. If you can't regularly be checking in with your loved one..I would not recommend this facility. While I was supporting my elderly mother in and out of hospital>rehabs>home...my husband who's 65 and only walking with a cane was rehabing at egret cove. In a matter of weeks he ended up in the hospital in critical condition! He had lost weight because this most likely was brewing in his system for awhile. He remembers mentioning to staff he did not feel good. When he arrived at the hospital out of egret cove, he needed a blood transfusion because he had urinary retention that developed. It was so bad it backed up into his kidneys. Kidneys shut down, he had a uti, sepsis, needed dialysis for almost two weeks, he also had blood clots in both legs! No wonder he had lost weight and had gotten so weak! He was so sick and weak the first week in the hospital that he could only lay in the hospital bed and only open his eyes when we woke him. He didn't even have enough strength to talk more then a word or two at a whisper tone. Their had to put a feeding tube in to give him nutrition for the first 2 weeks because it took 7 days until he could move very little. I am at a loss for words as to how the trained staff did not address signs and symptoms of illness before it got that bad? To make matters worse..when I went to pick up his personal property from egret cove, they were very disorganized. A staff member was pulling clothes out of the last room they'd moved my husband to. He handed us clothes that had someone else's name in them. We started naming items we knew he had there. He pulled my husbands cane out of that closet. Then my kids & I waited in the hallway as this staff walked this way and that way talking to different employees to try to find where his stuff was? We mentioned he definitely had his wallet with him. Eventually the gentleman found his wallet and gave it to us. He said he had to talk to staff that were there when my husband left by ambulance to see where his cell phone and property were. I called about two weeks ago. I spoke with social services at egret cove. There is suppose to be a documented list for personal property. She did find it. Ok... where's the remainder of his things!? (Clothing, shoes, cell phone, charger) She said they'd look and get back to me. I've called her back twice now. I keep hearing from her that she needs to speak with administration. Do they not follow policies, procedures here??? Very, very disappointing that a facility is not paying closer attention to care, signs and symptoms of new (previously not existent) sickness (loss of weight, weakness, appearance looking ill, patient mentioning they don't feel well) or basic procedures for their patients personal property! My husband is slowly recovering but due to how severely sick he became in their care... he's unable to walk yet. He lost at least half of his muscle tone. The sepsis affected his brain it was so bad (or let go so long), it's created tension in his body, challenges with coordination now! Thanks to egret cove he has a much longer & harder recovery ahead of him now in a medical acute care rehab!! I would never recommend egret cove.
