At first sight this is an impeccable home. However, one must look beyond the facade. I placed my mother at this home almost 2 years ago. In the time she resided therein, the caregiver turnover was amazing; somewhere between 12 -15. Not good. Furthermore the ratio of caregivers to residents is insane: 2 caregivers for 10-13 residents. More often than not they were too busy cleaning, doing laundry and preparing meals. Not good. Lunch was catered from a nearby restaurant but the menu rarely changed from week to week. There were no activities other than listening to the radio, watching TV or staring at four walls. My mother loves to sit outside but many of the caregivers didn't have time to assist her or watch her. When I first went to see the home, the owner told me that she catered lunch so that the caregivers could devote more time to the residents. Well, that was one of many stories I was sold on. There is much more I could write about but I strongly recommend that when looking for an ALF, check out the AHCA website for information, read everything you are asked to sign, ask for immediate copies of every form and visit the home as often as possible. My mother walked in on her own and ended up in the emergency room, now in rehab due to a bad fall. Bottom line, do not take anything at face value and/or for granted. If it waddles like a duck, if it quacks like a duck.....

My mom has been in Calusa Adult Care I for two years now. It's a small community. There are 11 or 12 residents. They keep the place very clean. The staff is good. They take really good care of them. It's like a little family. They're very kind. They bring them food from a local restaurant. They don't cook there on-site, so the food is very good. It's like Cuban cuisine. However, I wish they had more activities. I think during the pandemic, it was probably pretty hard for them to do them. They have a lady that would come in with a guitar and sing with them, they play bingo, and they listen to music.
