Birchwood Health and Rehab

I was worried about my father being sent here after reading some of these reviews. My father came to birchwood for therapy and wound care. He has bed sores, a nephrostomy, and not one but TWO ostomys., so I was especially concerned after reading these reviews. I’m happy to say that I did not share the same negative experiences. His wounds are healing well, my dad always has a bag on each ostomy, as well as his nephrostomy, and always clean. We met with the wound care team and they actually thought us how to manage his ostomys and wounds when we go home. Any concerns I’ve had, they were dealt with right away by nursing staff. They have vision, dental and podiatry that comes in, pain management, so dad was able to get his glasses fixed that we’ve been needing to do before ending up in the hospital. The facility also arranged all dads appointments with his surgeon, they get him there and back and update me on any and all changes. It would benefit all to give people grace, don’t walk in looking to find something negative, you’ll miss the all the good that’s in front of you.

extremely concerned about the level of care at Birchwood Center in Sarasota. Despite repeated complaints from families, upper management has consistently failed to address serious issues, and the overall environment has only worsened. Residents are frequently left unattended, and basic needs like hydration, hygiene, and safety are often neglected. Due to this negligence, my family member has been put in unsafe conditions, including a heightened risk of infection. While there are some staff who try to do their jobs well, management’s inaction has allowed systemic problems to persist, putting residents at real risk. Families should be extremely cautious before entrusting their loved ones to this facility.

Birchwood Center in Sarasota has some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Staff are rude, inattentive, and lack empathy toward residents. CNAs are often on their phones while residents are left unattended. I’ve had to step in and care for my own family member while visiting! This facility is not safe or trustworthy. Stay away.

No concern for proper sanitation or medical practices of hygiene. family member I visit regularly requires an ostomy bag for basic hygiene and health. On multiple occasions, she has been left without an ostomy bag for hours because staff stated the facility did not have enough supplies. This resulted in fecal contamination of her body, bedding, and room. Leaving a resident without a medically required ostomy bag is unsafe, undignified, and creates a serious risk of infection. This has happened more than once and is not an isolated incident and staff has even admitted to not putting bags on her because they do not have enough. Social services at the facility does not help or correct . Elijah who is one of the directors is honestly a joke, along with the CNA staff that follows blindly to this neglect all because of a paycheck! PROPER INFECTION CONTROL is not a minor inconvenience it is a failure to provide essential medical and personal care AND NEGLIGENCE period! Families should be aware of this before trusting this facility with a loved one. ↓
